Live Betting Hockey
Hockey fans from all around the world have either thought of placing a bet or have done but struggled to get a good start. With the offers above from some of the best betting sites for hockey, you can make sure you get the head start you always wanted.
With many high-paced sports, certain events may happen which completely change the game.
Take for example one of our favourite games of all time, Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Boston Bruins. This 2013 game saw Toronto leading by 4-2 with Boston only having 100 seconds left. Within 82 seconds however, the team managed to score two more goals and get into extra time and managed to bring the victory back to Boston.
A perfect example of how games can change so quickly and dramatically, many new comers to hockey betting can be quite nervous at first. Live betting is the solution to these nerves. Most desktop and mobile bet sites will allow you to bet whilst the game is on, allowing you to back up your picks with more evidence and feel a lot more confident overall.
If you’re new to the betting scene then it is highly recommended that you try out live-betting to make sure that you understand more about the sport before you start making bets from the top of your head.
Hockey Spread Betting
With most American sports (and a few others), many fans have a great betting option for their favourite sport known as spread betting. Spread betting allows you to bet on which team you think will win/lose as well as other features. There are three types of spread bets, which are:
- Spread – simple yet quite effective for earning big cash from spread betting. You must be able to predict the winning team as well as providing how many goals they will score. For example, if you do a spread bet on Vermont and its +11/2, this means that they must win with 2 or more goals to the name. If it displayed -11/2 then they would have to lose with one goal or nothing.
- Money Line – a fan favourite and a classic. Money line is simply betting on who you think will win the match. The only thing that confuses people is the format. Let’s say you decide to do a money line bet on North Dakota and the odds are -125, this means that if you bet $125; you will only get back $100. If it was +125, this means you would make $125 for your $100 bet.
- Total points (Over/under) – probably the most complicated option out of all 3 but still relatively simple. You must firstly be able to have a rough estimate of how many goals both teams will score. This bet simply asks whether you think the total goals in the match will be over or under a certain criterion. Usually, this number is something like 5.5, which either means 6 and above or 5 and lower.
Regardless, these bets are super simple and only require you to bet higher or lower. You can claim your winnings whenever you want and cut your losses whenever so it’s a great way to get involved.
Hockey Betting Odds
Not only are hockey bets restricted to NHL, but plenty of other leagues and championships can be bet on. One of the biggest examples is the world championships. Great Britain’s ladies’ team is a great team to follow throughout matches with their tactics constantly changing and adapting to their opponents.
If you do wish to place a bet on hockey, make sure to find out about the various hockey bet types first so that you get the very best odds for your hockey bets.
Due to the unpredictability of them, a lot of betting sites often find it hard to put exact odds on the team as they can sometimes defy all odds that are given. It’s important to keep in mind this fact as in hockey (especially international), odds can be incredibly misleading and therefore is best if you do some research beforehand to understand your pick even more.
Take for example the vitality hockey women’s world cup when England would face the USA. Bookies believed after the 1-1 draw with India that England would get defeated quite easy and decided to put the odds quite high. England surprised however by managing to get a draw. Those who did research and found out the team had been training hard were rewarded nicely.
At first, you may think hockey betting lines are quite confusing to read. They seem to be formatted in an incredibly weird way. Once you understand the line however, it starts to make a lot more sense than originally thought. Here’s an example of an average Hockey Betting Line:
Spread Money Line Total Points
Denver +11/2 -150 +220 Over 51/2 -110
Boston College -11/2 +110 -300 Under 51/2 -130
Each of these sections link to the different types of Hockey spread betting. If a number has a + next to it, it means you’ll be making more money than your original bet. E.g. +110 means you’ll receive $110 for $100 bet. – means the opposite and tells you that you’ll be making less money than your original bet. For example, -130 means you must bet $130 to make $100 in betting.
This format might look like other sports like American Football, Baseball, football and a few others. So, if you have been betting on those sports then this one will feel no different to the previous ones. Make sure you always read the betting line carefully though as sometimes the odds can change quite rapidly.
NHL Hockey Betting Lines
NHL bet lines work on the exact same concept as every other hockey league. Noting that, it’s important to note that NHL has some different rules to other hockey games which can really affect the game. Make sure that you’re clear on the rules of the game before you make any bets to avoid a loss of money occurring.
Keep in mind that NHL bet lines tend to be a lot more well thought through than other leagues so the odds that are given on these lines are usually spot on. Using them as a point of reference is a good method to get a head of the competition and help yourself get some cash quickly. Remember though, doing your own research can help as well.
NHL Hockey Picks
Making NHL picks can be quite confusing at first but if you take your time and pay attention to sources and keep up to date with changes in teams then you’ll have a stronger understanding of the upcoming games. It’s vital to prepare yourself with the correct knowledge for the games you are willing to bet on.
Another tip is to pick a specific division to operate within. It will allow you to direct more focus on other teams than just a general assumption of every single team. Making your pick should give you confidence, not a panic.
